For two months, my girl couldn’t call me Mama.
Since August 6, she would smile when she saw me. She would light up and get excited the moment I walked into her hospital room. Even when she couldn’t say it, I could tell she knew I was somebody important to her. Somewhere inside, my girl knew me.
But this weekend…
My girl put her hand on my cheek, rested her face against mine, and said the words I’ve been waiting two months to hear:
“I just love you, Mama.”
She called me MAMA.
I don’t think anyone could ever understand what that one word meant to me unless you’ve watched your child fight her way back from something like this.
On August 6, our lives changed in an instant. There were so many unknowns. So many prayers. So many tears. So many moments when I had to trust God for what I could not see.
And now, little by little, I’m watching pieces of my girl return.
Her smile.
Her laughter.
Her personality.
Her memories.
Her words.
And this weekend… Mama.
I will never hear that word the same again.
God, thank You for letting my baby remember me. Thank You for every connection being restored, every word spoken, every memory awakened, and every piece of her that You are bringing back.
Two months ago, I was praying for her life.
This weekend, my girl held my face and told me she loved me.
Look at God. 🙌🏾😭❤️
Keep going, Bug. Mama is right here. Always.
